Test guide
Hepatitis B Virus DNA Quantification
Quantifies hepatitis B virus DNA to guide treatment decisions and monitor response.
What it is for
Determines replication activity alongside HBsAg, HBeAg and ALT; identifies candidates for antiviral therapy per WHO and AASLD thresholds, monitors virologic response to nucleos(t)ide analogues, and assesses risk in pregnancy to guide neonatal prophylaxis.
Limitations
Viral load must be interpreted together with serology and liver function; a single value does not distinguish phases of infection. Assays differ in linear range at the low end.
Before you test
For individuals: a standard blood draw is required. Bring prior results if available so your clinician can compare trends.
