Technology
A simple non-quantitative form of interference microscopy of great utility in visualising live cells. Small differences in optical path length due to differences in refractive index and thickness of structures are visualised as differences in light intensity.
Technology
A method to measure the refractive index (propensity for light to bend) of a sample.
Tests
The semiquantitative assessment of the wheal-and-flare index that measures the intensity of the reaction.
Tests
The determination of the amount of degree, quality or condition of cells present in a sample.
Tests
A measurement of the efficiency of coagulation of a biological specimen. This is calculated by a mathematical formula that takes into account the R value, K value, angle and maximum amplitude of clot formation.
Tests
CSF stands for cerebrospinal fluid. IgG stands for immunoglobulin G. It is a type of antibody. Antibodies are proteins that your immune system makes to fight germs . A CSF IgG index measures the levels of IgG in your cerebrospinal fluid.
Tests
An index of the variation in the size of the red cells and can be used to detect subtle degress of anisocytosis. It is computed directly from the RBC histogram and is calculated as a standard statictical value, the coefficient of variation of the red cell volume ditribution (ratio of standard deviation and mean copuscular volume).

A reticulocyte count (retic count) measures the number of reticulocytes in your blood. Reticulocytes are immature (still developing) red blood cells (RBCs). Your body makes reticulocytes in your bone marrow. Then it sends them into your blood, where they mature into red blood cells within one to two days. The main job of the red blood cells is to move oxygen from your lungs to every cell in your body.
