Glossary Term
A control sample where a negative result is expected, to help correlate a positive result with the variable being tested.
Glossary Term
The probability that a test will produce a true negative result when used on non-effected subjects as compared to a reference or "gold standard". The specificity of a test can be determined by calculating: number of true negative results divided by the sum of true negative results plus number of false positive results.
Glossary Term
A PCR format that partitions each sample into thousands of sub-reactions and calls each partition positive or negative, giving absolute quantification without a standard curve. Useful for low-level targets, copy-number work, and reference material characterization; throughput and per-test cost differ from qPCR.
Glossary Term
A test result that shows no evidence of a result or condition although it is present.
Glossary Term
Problem associated with the device incorrectly reporting that something has not been detected and may mislead the operator into not taking certain actions when action should be taken.
Glossary Term
A non-target amplification built into a reaction to prove the assay chemistry worked even when the sample is negative. It helps distinguish a true negative from inhibition or setup failure, which matters when interpreting single-target assays on difficult matrices.
Glossary Term
A test result that indicates that a specific disease, condition, or attribute being assessed is not present.
