Indicators
This gene plays a role in cellular hematopoiesis and differentiations. Mutations in the gene are associated with several diseases, including acute myelogenous leukemia, gastrointestinal tumors, and mast cell disease.
Indicators
This gene is involved in transcriptional regulation and alterations in the gene are associated with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Indicators
This gene plays a role in both methylation and transcriptional regulation
Indicators
This gene plays a role in co-activation of gene expression.
Indicators
This gene is involved in signal transduction and apoptosis.
Indicators
Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol — the primary lipid target in cardiovascular prevention.
Indicators
One of nine essential amino acids in humans (provided by food), Leucine is important for protein synthesis and many metabolic functions. Leucine contributes to regulation of blood-sugar levels; growth and repair of muscle and bone tissue; growth hormone production; and wound healing. Leucine also prevents breakdown of muscle proteins after trauma or severe stress and may be beneficial for individuals with phenylketonuria. Leucine is available in many foods and deficiency is rare. (NCI04)
Indicators
White blood cells formed in the body's lymphoid tissue. The nucleus is round or ovoid with coarse, irregularly clumped chromatin while the cytoplasm is typically pale blue with azurophilic (if any) granules. Most lymphocytes can be classified as either T or B (with subpopulations of each); those with characteristics of neither major class are called null cells.
Indicators
One of nine essential amino acids in humans required for growth and tissue repair, Lysine is supplied by many foods, especially red meats, fish, and dairy products. Lysine seems to be active against herpes simplex viruses and present in many forms of diet supplements. The mechanism underlying this effect is based on the viral need for amino acid arginine; lysine competes with arginine for absorption and entry into cells. Lysine inhibits HSV growth by knocking out arginine. (NCI04)
Indicators
This gene may be involved in Golgi stabilization, embryogenesis or transcriptional regulation.
Indicators
This gene plays a role in signal transduction and regulation of transcription. It is also involved in cell differentiation, growth and proliferation.
Indicators
This gene plays a role in both protein phosphorylation and signal transduction.
